October 15th, 2014 – Viking Kayaks has launched the Profish GT kayak series this past weekend in Matamata, New Zealand. Via a much awaited internet release, Viking Kayak President Grant Montague unveiled its new smaller, more compact kayak for their fishing fleet, the Profish GT. As the little brother to the Viking Kayak Profish Reload, the GT was designed for kayak anglers looking for a more compact casting platform to fish from, while not limiting themselves with storage options or paddling speed.
Profish GT Specs: 11’8″ long // 32″ wide // 52 lbs // 385 lb carrying capacity
The Profish GT was developed for both convenience and added versatility in smaller waters than the beyond the breakers paddling that the Profish Reload is known for. A 14’8” kayak isn’t for everyone but the Reload storage features – including the Reload TacklePod, ChillPod, and FlatDeck – are accessories kayak anglers of all types can take advantage of to improve their experience. In addition to the Reload accessory compatibility, the GT also resembles the Reload in construction with paddling perks such as excellent bow lift, turned down edges, and a broad hull.
The Viking Kayaks Profish GT measures 11’8” and weighs 52 pounds with a carrying capacity of 385 pounds and width of 32 inches.
“We developed this option for those guys that can’t justify getting in a 14’8” kayak based on their niche fishing styles. If you are going to find yourself in the middle small rivers or coastal shallows, 11’8” is a lot easier to handle” states Viking USA Production Manager Stephen Snider.
“The storage options on the Profish Reload are incredible,” states Micah Simoneaux, Viking Kayak fishing team member. “There are many functional uses, including gear storage, gear safety, fish storage, electronics mounting…you name it! To base a kayak around these fundamentals is a no brainer! Add in the compact design and the paddling efficiency and you’ve got yourself quite the utility fishing kayak.”
These kayaks will be available in the USA in mid-March for just over $1,200 at any of the Viking Kayaks retailers.
